Here you’ll find some of Das Binky’s favorite folk tunes. Some of these are written by the Das Binky Recording Collective, others are just performed.
Whether or not these could as folks tunes is up for debate. I think of folk as “singer-songwriter stuff with limited / acoustic instrumentation.” Sort of. The line between genres is hazy; you’ll find things here you might put in Pop or the Everything else category.
All sound files are demos, except for album tracks, which generally provide samples.

LyricsI am your philosophy, I tell you where to go I am in all you breathe, I am not what you knowCHORUS I can feed you in your time I will keep you in good form I can guide you when you need To divide the stormYou are a demi-god, You swim in lakes of gold You fall among the trees, And you are forever oldCHORUSThere are no truths in here, No absolution in the fight But maybe there is something good out there, Hidden in the lightCHORUS |

LyricsLooks like you know where you are headed No more surprises up your sleeve The future is no longer dreaded And I am sorry for youThere is truth in uncertainty Meaning in the winding of the wind Being static is no way to be And I am sorry for youCHORUS No more time to discover yourself Time to realize what you’ll never haveYou never meant that much to me Ok, maybe that’s a lie But I am still sorry for youI wear this hairshirt, you wear a crown of thorns Both forced metaphors of heartache and scorn All engineered to make me feel Sorry for youCHORUS |

LyricsHello there, Missoula You’re everything I ever knew Where the mountains lean in to listen To the stories that you whisper And the sky, it doesn’t get much bluer Than it does with you Oh Missoula, I’ll be missing youSet out on the road to find A not-too-long-lost friend of mine She and he had moved away A month before her wedding dayBut great old friends are friends indeed And that’s the kind of friends I need So 18 hours and a thunderstorm later I pulled up to her house on BakerChorus4 years more and I got a call Come back and see us in the fall Got some news and you’ll meet her then We’ll have a little girl named WrenChorusMaybe this time I’ll never leave What do you think, my friend, is there room out there for me? | I Had to Kill My Friend in a Knife Fight. Music and Lyrics by Das Binky. Play I Had to Kill My Friend in a Knife Fight |
LyricsSteve was a good friend Not my best but we hung out every now and then But we were trapped in Some hellish futuristic distopiaThe sadistic leader was pairing us off to make us fight for sport Though my own bad luck, I got picked out of the crowd And then he pointed his finger at SteveI had to kill my friend in a knife fight Survival of the fittest on a micro scale An ugly knife fight, staring each other down It was me who had to drive the final coffin nailI was a bigger guy, so they gave me a scalpel, Steve some rusty serrated carving knife. We didn’t make eye contact at first Wanted to divorce this whole scene from real lifeHe ran at me quickly, and but I dodged him easily I didn’t quite know what to do He had a look in his eye that clearly said Sorry man, it’s either me or youI had to kill my friend in a knife fight Survival of the fittest on a micro scale An ugly knife fight, wearing each other down It was me who had to drive the final coffin nailIt went on like this for minutes to a silent crowd Until Steve made his fatal mistake He lunged too far and fell to the ground I could see he knew that that was it I jammed my scalpel in the back of his skull I lumbered back into line, with a tear on my cheek I had to kill my friend in a knife fight |
| Until the Day We Die. Music and lyrics by Das Binky. Performance by Das Binky and Peter Watkinson. Play Until the Day We Die |
LyricsAnother bottle of gin, garcon And a bottle for my friend We’ll be here all night And if we make if back Then we’ll be here right through the endYa see his wife left him and my father passed So we’ve reason enough to drink Cause another bottle is much easier than spending time to thinkSo pour me some whiskey And pour him some wine And we’ll laugh until we cry If I had the chance I’d be drinking with you Until the day we dieThere’s far too much sorrow in this ugly world To much for me to bear But as long as I’m here with you my friend I’ll have a drink to shareWe’ll be here through the good times and here through the bad We’ll be here when no one one will And when I’m down it brings me up to know that there’ll be someone to get the billSo pour me some whiskey And pour him some wine And we’ll laugh until we cry If I had the chance I’d be drinking with you Until the day we dieNow the old men sitting at the end of the bar Don’t seem so old anymore It’s far too easy to see ourselves Sitting there, old men by the door We drink our way though women So pour me some whiskey |
