Madison Area Music Award Nomination!

Leslie Hudson and I are up for Best Hard Rock / Punk song in the 2013 Madison Area Music Awards (MAMAs) for our Lord of the Rings themed tune “All Shall Love Me and Despair” from my Hurtful Nothings EP.

February Album Writing Month 2013 was a wonderfully productive time, and a number of the tunes I wrote are likely to end up on future releases. I’d love if you took a chance to listen to some of the wide variety of tunes we made, ranging from trance to funk to punk to country metal and a whole bunch of other catchy tunes.

The nominations for the 2012 Madison Area Music Awards (MAMAs) have been announced, and two tracks from Divide the Storm are nominated!

Best Alternative Song – “White Collar Suicide”
Best Electronic Song – “Awakening Bethlehem”

This is the first time Das Binky has been nominated for anything, anywhere, so we’re pretty psyched.

Music Video for My Country Tis of Me!

The Das Binky Recording Collective has filmed their first music video for the lead-off single from Divide the Storm, “My Country Tis of Me”. The tune is the first track on the album and features Jordan Hirsch on vocals, Nancy Rost on accordion and John Das Binky on everything else.

On January 26, 2012, the Das Binky Recording Collective will release its debut album, “Divide the Storm.”

Featuring 15 tracks written over three years, the album is an eclectic collection of songs spanning multiple genres and moods, from sardonic pop to longing folk, from inflammatory metal to aggressive electronica to alternative rock.

Framed as a concept album about the impacts of living under the umbrella of American culture in the new millenium, “Divide the Storm” touches on themes of discomfort, alienation and the failure of the American Dream juxtaposed on, and unifed by, a catchy pop mindset. The songs aim to lodge themselves into your head, comment on our modern lives, and take you on a guided tour through Das Binky’s assimilated influences.

John Das Binky, Jordan Hirsch, and John Crossman lead the vocal efforts of an ensemble cast of musicians spanning four different countries and many different skill sets, each adding different flavors to the overall pop sound of the album. All of the music was written as part of February Album Writing Month (FAWM) or its sister project, 50/90, and the communities therein helped shaped the album’s vision.

The album will be available at CDBaby, iTunes or in-person, in both “Explicit” and “Clean” versions.
